Bits and bobs from illustration projects
The Odyssey
The illustrations on this book cover were inspired by the artist Jochen Gerner's style, simple but filled with visual metaphors.
I aimed to give the viewer a preview of what to expect from the story via the cover. Going off the thought that people may assume because The Odyssey is an old story, it must be complex. By telling the viewer what happens in the book on the cover they may feel it's more approachable. The choice to not tell every event of the story (the cover ends when Poseidon destroys Odysseus's ship) was made so the viewer would still need to read the book.
30 Days of History
This month-long project was self-initiated and used as an exercise to push my illustration skills. I love the challenge of portraying more abstract concepts/events via illustration, and illustrating historical facts and events felt like a perfect parallel. I limited myself to an hour per illustration and did one per day from September 15 to October 14
Record Cover Redesigns
As a lover of jazz, one of my favorite things is a good record cover. This personal project is oriented around having fun exploring type and design.
